Abstract
ABSTRACT
The aim of this study is to examine the psychological and behavioral effects of the earthquake on preschool children. Preschool period is a critical time period for children's emotional and social development. Traumatic events experienced during this period can cause long-term effects. It is of great importance to understand how children may react to such events and to establish appropriate support mechanisms. 16 teachers working in public kindergartens in the earthquake zone in the 2023-2024 academic year participated in the research. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach and a case study design. The research examined the effects of the earthquake on the emotional state of preschool children, based on teachers' observations. The results of the research emphasized the need for awareness of the effects of earthquakes on preschool children and for teachers to gain more knowledge and skills on this subject. In particular, it reveals the importance of teachers understanding children's coping skills and emotional needs in such stressful situations. Additionally, it has been concluded that teachers need to receive training on how to deal with such situations and support children.
