Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the opinions of school administrators regarding mid-term breaks. In the study, the positive and negative effects of mid-term breaks were addressed through the opinions of administrators. The qualitative research method was used in the study and 22 school administrators participated. The study consisted of school administrators working in a public school in Ankara. In order to understand the administrators' opinions about mid-term breaks, open-ended questions were prepared and the answers given to these questions were evaluated with the help of codes and themes using the content analysis method. According to the findings, while some administrators emphasized the positive aspects of the breaks, some expressed negative opinions. According to the findings, it was seen that mid-term breaks generally have positive effects on both teachers and students. From the perspective of teachers, mid-term breaks were found to be beneficial in terms of improving the rest and lesson planning process and providing professional development opportunities. On the other hand, students had the opportunity to spend time with activities that mentally rested and returned to school more motivated during these breaks, while also contributing to their social development.
